Round 1 - 2/4/2006 St Mary's Green 0.0.0 - v - St Damians 9.19.73
As a newly formed side, we came up against an established team as St Damians only under 11 side, who previously played in Gold division.  Our boys showed some positives, but we still have a lot to work on in the development side if we are to improve and play good team football.

The boys must stay positive as the only way from here is up.

Round 2 - 9/4/2006 St Mary's 0.0.0 - v - Park Orchards 12.15.87
Although the scoreline looks bad it does not reflect the improvement the boys made on last week. A great second half was not rewarded with a score, but the boys showed that when you play as a team ie. shepherd, talk, encouragement and run to help, good results can't be too far away.

The boys are slowly learning to play as a team and now that it is happening, improvements will start to be shown on the scoreboard. Keep your heads up boys, it was a great improvement.

Round 3 - 23/4/2006 St Mary's 0.3.3 - v - Fitzroy 13.11.89
3 weeks in to the season and we got our first score, albeit 3 points. The boys have improved from week to week. It is hard coming up against superior opposition week in, week out with limited numbers. Keep your heads up boys as signs are good and more players are on the way.

Round 4 - 30/5/2006 St Mary's 1.1.7- v - Banyule 7.11.53
A tenacious effort from a much improved side.  Invoking the Anzac spirit, the boys played for each other and scored their first goal for the season.  A lack of manning up in the second and third quarters cost us dearly, but with strong mateship showing, the boys managed to peg Banyule back to only 1 goal on the last term.  Congratulations boys, a win is not far away.

Round 5 - 7/5/2006 St Mary's - v - St Marys Red
Finally that good result we talked about has arrived. Unfortunately this was at the expense of our good mates in St Marys Red. This result proved that when we play together as a team and back each others play we can achieve anything. Great skills and great team work prove that with practice and training we can be a very competitive side. Well done boys this is just the start!

Round 6- 14/5/2006 St Mary's 6.8.44- v - Kew Rovers 4.5.29
This was a true grit come from behind win. The boys went out in the first half with sleep in their eyes and looked truly flat, but that side went into the rooms at half time and another team came out. The boys lifted, played as the team they know they can be and kicked 5 goals to none in the second half to win. This was brilliant boys, what a courageous team.

Round 7- 21/5/2006 St Mary's 1.1.7- v - Ivanhoe 4.10.34
Against the undefeated top side Ivanhoe, the boys showed a great determination early on in the game, but were let down by some basic skill errors. To be competetive against the top sides the boys must learn to play consistant pressure football for a full 4 quarters. There were still some good signs but the boys have to believe in their own ability and that of their team mates.

Round 8- 28/5/2006 St Mary's 5.4.34 - v - Richmond 4.2.26
A great team effort. The boys played for eachother which showed with some great sheppards and numbers at every contest. The tackling was teh best this season so far which resulted in a great 8 point win. The boys are rally starting to play as a team and realising the results they achieve when 19 mates are prepared to help eachother. Great effort boys

Round 9 - 4/6/2006 St Mary's 3.4.22 - v - Hawthorn Citizens 7.7.49
A tremendous team effort. Playing the top side, our boys showed true grit with hard tackling and team efforts in our forward thrusts. With most of our play in our forward line, the scoreboard does not indicate how hard the game was played. Our hardness at the ball was the perfect counter to Hawthorn's skills. Lack of confidence at the contest cost us and their defence was strong, but we proved we can match it with the best.

Round 10 - 18/6/2006 St Mary's 5.11.41 - v - Heidelberg 5.5.35
This was our second true grit come from behind win of the season. The boys were playing well in their forward line in the first quarter but did not make the most of their opportunities. Being too timid and lacking confidence in defense left us 3 goals down at half time. This all changed after half time and a more confident team came out with a four goal to one second half to clench a cliffhanger. You boys are brilliant!!!! Congratulations.

Round 11 - 2/7/06 St Mary's 1.1.7 - v - Greythorn 5.10.40
Against the second top team, our boys came out with the wrong attitude. With the rain coming down early our boys should have endeavoured to be first to the ball, but we fell into old habits of waiting for the opposition to get the ball then attempting to tackle.

When we realise that we must be first at the ball and run in numbers to help, shepherd and talk every week, then we will be a competitive force in this competition. I know we can be much more competitive, but until the boys believe that, we will continue to have inconsistent results

Round 12 - 9/7/2006 St Mary's 7.9.51 - v - Camberwell 5.6.36
A good team effort today when there is no standout players and ou find it hard to give the 5,4,3,2,1 votes, but the team wins convincingly it obviously shows, that every player contributed at different times. Its comforting to know that the boys are finally playing a great brand of team football. Keep it up boys!

Round 13 - 16/7/2006 St Mary's 14.15.99 - v - Doncaster Heights 1.0.6
Our best 4 quarter performance of the year. The boys ran in numbers, backed up and played discipline football. In muddy conditions the boys showed excellent skills and exceptional team work with every player contributing.

Well done boys, you were fantastic.

Round 15 - 30/7/2006 St Mary's 3.10.28 - v - Beverley Hills 2.5.17
A tough game against a tenacious opposition. Lack of confidence and commitment and a failure to pick up the ball nearly lost us the game. Despite this the boys put in a great team effort to pull off an important win. The close last quarter shows that we can never let our guard down until the final siren. A better effort will be required to win our next game.

Round 16 - 6/8/2006 St Mary's 4.6.30 - v - Hawthorn Citizens 5.6.36
A great game to finish the season. The boys came up against the top side, and with no chance of making the finals really showed the progression the boys made this year. They went down by 6 points in a fierce contest fought out to the very end with great commitment at the ball.

Thank you to all the players and parents for your terrific support throughout the season. Special thanks to Lachlan McLeish and Jordan Galea for helping the boys out today.
